Fine wines and each and every hill have always been friends and always will… Much like the verse states, Zagorje and wine grapes have always, or rather navek as the locals would say, gone hand in hand. And the navek referred to started 12 million years ago, which is the age of the Vitis teutonica wine leaf fossil found in Radoboj.

The fossil of the species that the modern grape vine species evolved from is now kept at the nearby Radboa Museum. Since then and throughout history, including the time of the Ancient Romans and the medieval Peasants’ Revolt to this day, wine can traditionally be found in Zagorje literally on every hill and in every klet (referring to traditional wine cellars/cottages) – and is widely known for its aroma and quality.
